UPDATE: The Main Street Bridge will now open on Thursday, April 17th. A short ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for 9 am.
Watertown, Wis. (April 10, 2025) – Construction on the Main Street Bridge is nearing completion, with an anticipated opening to vehicle traffic and pedestrian use of the sidewalks on the afternoon of Friday, April 18, 2025. This date remains subject to change based on weather conditions and work progression.
Remaining work prior to the road opening includes:
Installation of concrete bridge parapets and steel railings
Fine grading and asphalt paving of the approach roadways
Pavement marking
Lighting and signage installation
Following the anticipated road opening, additional contractor work will continue in the area. These remaining work items include concrete work around light poles, barge and equipment removal, site restoration near the bridge, and general demobilization. While minor traffic disruptions may occur during this follow-up work, the bridge is expected to remain open to traffic beginning April 18. Parking adjacent to the bridge may be limited until all work is finalized.
For your safety and that of the construction crews, please refrain from entering the construction site until all traffic control barriers have been removed.
The City is exploring the possibility of holding a ribbon cutting ceremony on April 18, which would take place ahead of a larger community event being planned for the coming weeks. Additional details will be shared if the ribbon cutting is confirmed.
The City of Watertown thanks residents, businesses, and visitors for their continued patience and support throughout this major infrastructure improvement project.
