Mayor

Emily McFarland

On behalf of the City of Watertown, I’d like to extend a warm welcome and thank you for visiting our website. Whether you're a resident, a potential new neighbor, or a business exploring opportunities in our community, we’re glad you’re here.

Our mission—to provide for, protect, and serve the citizens and businesses of Watertown in an efficient, strategic, and measured manner—guides everything we do. We’re proud to foster a culture built on close-knit connections and small-town values, while embracing growth and the modern conveniences that make life here both comfortable and connected.

Watertown is experiencing an exciting period of revitalization and thoughtful development. From a wide variety of new housing options to continued enhancements in our historic downtown, including the visionary Rock River District development plan, we’re investing in our future while preserving the character and history that make Watertown special. Through proactive outreach such as our Business Retention and Expansion program, we’re supporting local entrepreneurs and welcoming new businesses into a thriving, collaborative economy.

We are a friendly, hard-working city—big enough to offer everything you need, yet small enough that it’s all just minutes away. From beautiful parks and modern municipal services to destination sports facilities, a welcoming library, an aquatic center, and a lively senior center, we’re proud to offer something for everyone. It’s a genuine American hometown and a wonderful place to live, work, dine, shop, play, and do business.

Education is another cornerstone of our community. As home of the nation’s first kindergarten, Watertown has kept the tradition of educational excellence going by offering a strong K-12 public school system, a range of excellent private school options, and two post-secondary institutions that provide everything from four-year degrees to career-focused certificates and lifelong enrichment opportunities.

I’m incredibly proud of the progress we’ve made and even more excited about what’s ahead. The future of Watertown is bright—filled with opportunity, guided by strong values, and built with the strength of its people.

Thank you again for your interest in Watertown. We invite you to explore, engage, and experience all that our city has to offer.

Sincerely,
Mayor Robert Stocks
