Road closure: Eastbound Western Ave.

Watertown, Wis. (April 4, 2025) – Beginning on Wednesday, April 9th, City of Watertown contractor, Forest Landscaping & Construction, Inc., will begin pavement removals on the eastbound lane of Western Avenue between S. Third Street and S. Fifth Street in advance of the Water Main Relay project, which will be closed to through traffic. A detour for this closure will go into effect on April 9, 2025. It is expected that the closure and detour will remain in effect for the duration of the project.

Northbound traffic on River Drive that wish to proceed east on Western Avenue will need to turn right onto Dakota St, then turn left onto Hart St. and then continue east on Hart St. to S. Twelfth St. where they will turn left onto S. Twelfth St. and proceed to Western Avenue. Once at Western Avenue motorists will then have the ability to left or right onto Western Ave. This detour route is suitable for heavy truck traffic and is also designed to keep through traffic off of the Clyman Street neighborhood streets and away from a nearby elementary school. See map below.

The water main relay project is funded through the City of Watertown Water Utility and is a Water Utility managed project. The project scope of work includes new water main, concrete pavement, and curb construction. The project has a completion date of July 31st, 2025.

Additional Information:

  • Access will be maintained to residents within the closure area.

  • The Street Department at 811 S. First Street will remain open to the public. Access will be available through the S. Second Street entrance via Clyman Street.

Questions can be directed to the City of Watertown Public Works Department at (920) 262-4060. Motorists are encouraged to use caution when traveling near the work zone and consider alternate routes when possible. The City appreciates your patience and cooperation in this matter.Map of detour
