Dog Licenses
Dog Licensing Period: Annually from January 1 – December 31
Fees Have Changed Effective April 1, 2024 - New Fees Reflected Below
Licensing Requirements:
City of Watertown resident
Owners who have a Watertown address but DO NOT live within the City limits should contact their township for licensing requirements.
Any dog over 5 months of age
Current/Unexpired Rabies Vaccination Certificate
Must include the following:
Date Vaccination was administered
Date Vaccination expires
Rabies Tag number
Annual Licensing Fees:
Unaltered: $15.00 per dog
Spayed/Neutered: $10.00 per dog
Replacement Tag: $2.00 for the first replacement tag
Subsequent replacement tags will be charged the normal fees.
Service Dog: no charge with proof of certification
Certificate should contain:
Name of owner
Name of dog
Effective Date
If no certification is provided, the normal fees will be charged.
Emotional Support Animals (ESA): the normal fees will be charged.
Late Fee: $5.00 per dog
Assessed for license renewals issued after March 31st
Assessed for new licenses issued more than 30 days after meeting the licensing requirements
Licenses are typically available in December for the following licensing period.
Please have current rabies certificate and payment for the fee (cash or check only) ready when obtaining a license. Licensing can be done in one of two ways:

Reminders to renew your dog license will NOT be sent. Failure to license your dog could result in the penalties outlined in the City of Watertown Ordinances Section 228 Article I.
