Mayor Robert Stocks recently visited Konecranes as part of the City of Watertown’s Industry & Innovation Tour, conducted in partnership with the Watertown Area Chamber of Commerce.
The tour provided Mayor Stocks an opportunity to see firsthand how Konecranes combines advanced manufacturing with a strong culture of continuous improvement.
Konecranes is a global leader in sustainable material handling solutions, providing cranes, hoists and related services used to safely move heavy materials and products in industries ranging from manufacturing and metals to energy, shipbuilding, ports and terminals. Its equipment helps businesses move everything from raw materials and components to finished products.
“What impressed me most was the culture of problem-solving,” said Mayor Stocks. “Konecranes empowers its employees, as the people closest to the work, to identify opportunities for improvement. Their philosophy of ‘fix what bugs you’ gives employees a voice and makes them part of the solution.”
That commitment to continuous improvement extends beyond Konecranes equipment. The company services, repairs, modernizes and refurbishes cranes and hoists made by other manufacturers, helping customers extend the useful life of their existing equipment.
The visit also highlighted Konecranes’ commitment to Watertown. The company shared its interest in increasing its investment and involvement in the community.
“Companies like Konecranes are an important part of Watertown’s economic foundation,” Stocks said. “They provide skilled employment, develop talent and compete on a global scale while continuing to invest locally. We want to support their success and see that investment continue to grow.”
The Industry & Innovation Tour is a joint initiative of the City and Chamber designed to connect community leaders with local employers, showcase Watertown’s diverse economy, and better understand the opportunities and challenges facing local businesses.
“Konecranes is a great example of the innovation, skilled workforce and commitment to continuous improvement that exists right here in Watertown,” Stocks said.
The City thanks Konecranes for hosting the visit and for its continued investment in the Watertown community.
